This line is my attempt to redesign the Star Wars universe in an antiquated Victorian style.

This line is a three part series.  It features my favorite aesthetic...old.   I love the clunky old-fashioned look of the industrial era.  It is kind of steampunk, but not really, which is why I changed the name of the line.  It is influenced by Jules Verne, HG Welles, Terry Gilliam, Guillermo Del Toro, etc.   But I feel it has my own unique sensibilities as well.

I started on the sketches for these figures in 2006, completed the figures in 2007, but held off releasing them until they were unveiled at Customcon XIX.

Each figure has 3 accompanying images:  A basic front shot, a composite shot showcasing certain details, and a rotating 360° animated gif.

C-3PO

The idea behind my C-3PO design was a mechanical man, almost skeletal, with exposed gears, pulleys, and hinges.  I used  a burnished antique gold finish, rather then the classic polished finish.  For the classic 3PO look I tried to incorporate the round disc design on the abdomen and the classic arm position.

R2-D2

Since 3PO was mechanical I wanted R2 to be steam powered.   I incorporated the focal elements of the segmented dome (this time with rivets),  the single eye, the short nature, and used R2’s original air vents as a modified furnace door.   Inside the vents is a large translucent flame that lights up.

Luke Skywalker

I took Luke's humble origins as a farmer and modified them for an more industrial age.  I went for a look that was kind of factory worker/pilot feel.  The lightsaber is connected via tubes to a power pack.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

With Ben, I went for a more traditional European knight, rather then the Asian samurai robes.  I wanted his head to look like a guy who had been hiding out and keeping low.  I also wanted it too have the feel of an elderly warrior who put on his old armor for one last adventure.  I wanted a thinner body, kind of Don Quixote-esque.   I thought the antique armor worked as the Jedi are established as an ancient and dead order.  I gave the armor the riveted steampunk feel. I also made it look old, tarnished, and little rusty.  I tried to evoke the brown Jedi robes with the shoulder pauldrons and waist tunic, which also gave the armor a ceremonial feel.  The lightsaber is connected to the a power pack like Luke.

Han Solo

Han Solo is still the cocky smuggler pilot, but I played up the smuggler with a pirate feel. Rather then a spaceship now he pilots a large dirigible-like airship.  I added the classic steampunk goggles to the smug grinning face.  I tried to keep the classic black, cream, & blue color scheme.  I finished him off with a clunky modified pistol.

Chewbacca

Chewbacca always presents a challenge, as the classic look is large furry naked guy.  I gave Chewbacca a more animalistic look with the more feline face and clawed hands and feet.   As first mate on the airship I figured he would still have mechanic duties, as seen from his classic bandolier now serving as a tool bag.  I gave him some pirate-like clothing without losing too much of the exposed fur look.  His weapon is designed to be my clunkier version of a crossbow energy weapon.  Chewie is finished off with goggles to protect his eyes from the wind on the airship.

Princess Leia

Rather then the fairy princess look of Leia, I went for the leader of a rebellion look. When I think of a 1700’s revolutionary woman, I think of the famous Romanticism paintings of lady liberty leading the French in battle.  I added the obvious corset for the steampunk style.  I tried to keep to the lighter shade of the color palette to be similar to her classic white gown.  This was the 2nd attempt at her head, the first had her trademark hair buns, but I felt that it just looked like I put hair buns on a Victorian woman, so I went with a whole knew look.

Stormtrooper

I wanted my stormtrooper to have the classic white on black look.  I used the more ornate and engraved amor for a more antiquated feel.  I wanted the stormtrooper helmet to resemble Vader’s helmet to tie the two together aesthetically.  I used the air tubes to resemble the shape of the classic Stormtrooper’s helmet.  The air tubes lead to the large riveted air tanks on his back.  I felt the belt pouches were a logical addition; I also used brown for the straps, air tubes, belt and boots to break up the constant black and white.  The gun is intended to be a WWI looking gun with larger more steampunk elements and bayonet added.

Gran Moff Tarkin

With Tarkin I wanted a tall thin Eastern European officer look.  I added traditional medals in place of the classic red and blue squares.  I  added the epaulettes and ropes to complete the look.

Darth Vader

Unlike my  ReVision Vader, I stripped away the samurai influence on Vader.  In the films Tarkin calls him “Lord Vader”, I used that line as the inspiration for his look.  My imperials are meant to have that Eastern European/German feel that the film's Imperials somewhat had.  Vader’s flared out helmet is no longer a samurai look but now a more Prussian spiked helmet.  A modified gas mask replaces his fierce angular face mask.  The dark patina chest armor is a homage to his classic shinny black armor.  The clunky lightsaber is connected to a power pack via the tube.

Snowtrooper

This design uses the Steampunk Stormtrooper as the starting point and then incorporates the elements of the Snowtrooper such as the skirt, backpack, belt pouches and facemask.  I want all my imperial troops to look very similar with slight distinct differences for special designations.  His gun is also similar to my earlier Stormtrooper's rifle.

Tie Fighter Pilot

Once again the Steampunk stormtrooper armor is recognizable here, just in a darker color scheme which is more reminiscent of the pilots in black in the film..  He is less armored then his frontline compatriots and he has 2 air hoses hooked up to a regulator and control box on his chest.

Boba Fett

Everyone’s favorite bounty hunter is always a tough design.  His leg and forearm armor has kept the ornate feel of the stormtrooper armor, but the chest armor has a more riveted industrial feel.  While Fett’s “T” visor is iconic, this design keeps the look of the rounder goggles that have become a staple of the line, while the red strip down the middle hints at the old “T” design.  His forearm weapons feature a mini-crossbow and a working retractable blade.  The Surcoat is reminiscent of Fett’s shoulder cape.  His rocketpack is still there just in a larger more industrial model.

Dengar

Originally this bounty hunter’s movie armor looked like a cobbled together piecemeal collection of different types of armor, this version is no different.  I tried to incorporate the bandaged look with turban-esque helmet.  His weapon is in keeping with the look of all the weapons in these lines.  These bounty hunters are all supposed to have a very dirty and grimy appearance.

IG-88

The tall skeletal robot assassin was a very interesting design.  This version is made of girders and gears with a head that looks like a Victorian lantern.

4-LOM

The outfit for the movie version was a modified suit of 3PO armor.  So this version is very similar to the Steampunk C-3PO just with a more intimidating custom head and a little more of an edge in his armor and weapons.

Bossk

This reptilian bounty hunter is now in a larger more industrial space suit and his lizard like features have been played up for a scarier feel.

Zuckuss

This gasmasked bounty hunter with the insectoid helmet has just been slightly modified to fit in with the Victorian redesign of the line

Lando Calrissian

The smooth gentleman gambler has been transformed into his Victorian double.  Keeping the classic blue, orange, and black color scheme but applying it to a formal jacket, vest, and dress shirt, which are more traditional of the era.

Yoda

Yoda was the most challenging figure in this line.  He had to be Yoda-esque but not too much.  I did not want to do robes, as the line is more urban European then ancient Asian.  I had the idea of a kind of homeless professor type, that young Luke might find in back alley of some far off urban industrial city.  Also, in my earlier Revision line I had simply put Yoda in a similar costume to my Obi Wan.  While I liked that concept at the time, I wanted a more unique look for Yoda this time.  My favorite parts of the figure would be the details like the patches, pocket watch, and over dirty look of the Jedi master.

Jedi Luke Skywalker

Attempting to rekindle the order of Jedi, but fighting his own dark inner demons, is Jedi Luke Skywalker.  This version of Luke is more mature and intimidating then his “A New Hope” incarnation.  The look was achieved by using the idea of the Obi-Wan armor as a starting point and adding darker elements and the raised hood, like the cloak worn in the films.  His lightsaber has the cohesive feel of the others in the line so far.

Bib Fortuna

The major domo of the intergalactic crime boss Jabba the Hutt is Bib Fortuna, part personal assistant  and part consigliore.  His trademark tentacles have been replaced by mechanical versions.  The face is very much the same, but the character now sports a derby and trench coat rather then the classic robes.

Salacious Crumb

The cackling, creepy little jester of Jabba’s crew is always ready for mischief.  He is very similar to his cinematic inspiration but features a small top hat for that touch of Victorian England.

Jabba the Hutt

The grotesque godfather rules the streets and back alleys with a sweaty, bloated, iron fist.   The look of the nefarious crime boss was modified heavily.  He is a fusion of the memorable space slug and his deleted human alter ego.  The custom winged back chair barely contains the massive frame of this cigar smoking Mafioso.

Slave Leia

Suspended from a pipe is Jabba’s  most recent acquisition, Slave Leia.  Her classic gold bikini has been replaced with a corset and half dress.  The color scheme is the same but now she is suspended from a pipe attached to Jabba’s chair.

She was not originally in my plans for the line, but I was convinced by a friend to put her in as well.

Imperial Biker Scout  w/ Speeder Bike

The Imperial Bike Scouts zips trough the jungle keeping the peace atop his steam & propeller powered bike.  He wears armor similar to his imperial compatriots from the previous lines but features unique elements and increased possibility for the seated position on his custom made speeder bike.

I really wanted to do some vehicles with this line and I always loved the Speederbikes.

Ewok

In the distant jungles of Endor the pint sized primates known as the Ewok lurk in shadows.  Yielding the eternal complaint of the cuteness of Ewoks, the new version has a more primal appearance.  He proudly wears the bones and armor of the imperial soldiers he has slaughtered in defense of his ancestral lands.

Imperial Royal Guard

Keeping constant guard of Emperor Palpatine making sure any “adoring” subjects seeking an audience with the Emperor are properly dissuaded.  The trade mark imperial armor of the line is now featured in crimson with red cape and tall polearm.

Emperor Palpatine

Sitting atop his massive throne, dressed the imperial attire of a Napoleonic coronation, scepter in hand, the sovereign keeps the local systems inline with Machiavellian fear and Draconian laws.  He is a little more medieval looking then the rest of the line, but in my research of Emperors of the late 1800's the dress is very traditional.

Admiral Ackbar

The clever crustacean, who leads the rebellion against the Empire, always on the lookout for a trap, features a classic naval admiral uniform in the color scheme of the film character.  His crablike pincers, golden epaulets, and knee high stockings capture the look of a bygone era.  I could not resist doing the pincers.

X-Wing Pilot Wedge Antilles

The backbone of the Rebellion is the fearless pilots of the X-wing Bi-plane.  Decked out in his orange jumpsuit, and chest air box (similar to those of the imperial pilots) and domed helmet for maneuvers that take him up the upper reaches of the Æther.

The head of wedge comes off and can be replaced with my A New Hope Luke's head for a Luke in X-Wing pilot outfit.
